Shabazz expects new job for Antigua

CHICAGO - Could one of Kentucky's top basketball recruiters be on his way to a head coaching job? One of Kentucky's top basketball recruiting targets thinks so.

Five-star Las Vegas wing player Shabazz Muhammad said on media day for the McDonald's All-American games on Tuesday that he expects UK assistant Orlando Antigua will be the next head coach at Duquesne.

"I think he's going to take that job," Muhammad said. "It's a head coaching job ... the Duquesne job. I think that's a good situation for him if he stays at UK or if he gets that head coaching job. I think he really deserves it."

UK signee Archie Goodwin, another McDonald's All-American, said he hadn't heard anything about Antigua leaving for Duquesne but that he would wish any UK assistant well if one took a new job.

"If he does take it that'll be good for him, another good start for him because that's what eventually every assistant wants to do is get a head coaching job," Goodwin said. "I can totally understand that."

Duquesne, which is located in Pittsburgh, fired coach Ron Everhart last week.

Antigua played at the the University of Pittsburgh from 1991 to '95 and was an assistant there from 2004 to '08. He spent one season on John Calipari's Memphis staff, then stayed with the coach when he was hired at UK in the spring of 2009.
