Lauderdale still solid, still visiting this spring

Houston (Texas) Bellaire wide receiver Devin Lauderdale was one of several players on the docket to attend Texas Tech's spring game but missed out, including Houston (Texas) Sharpstown inside linebacker Reggie Chevis, Manvel (Texas) cornerback and fellow Tech commit Tavares Garner, and Houston (Texas) Yates running back Arthur Lockett.

The foursome drove together on their initial trek out to Lubbock, but got lost on the way. Lauderdale said that the group believed they knew the way to the Hub City, but didn't use a GPS and ended up in East Texas. The same players do, however, intend on visiting the Hub City before the spring is over.

"(We) didn't use a GPS, and we didn't even know we were going the wrong way. So we were driving (and we ended up) in East Texas," he said. "We're (still going to) go down there this spring."

Lauderdale has been in contact with several member of the Red Raider staff regularly, including running backs coach Chad Scott and defensive line coach Robert Prunty.

"I talk to a lot of them. I talk to Chad Scott," he said. "We talk about random things. He makes me feel like family.

"Robert Prunty, he's very cool, too. He's a straight up guy. He's a straight up kind of guy, and he's real cool."

With a recent bevy of offers coming his way, many thought Lauderdale might be wavering from his commitment to Tech. While he isn't 100 percent, the wideout said that he is very solid with the Red Raiders.

"I'd say like 85 percent," he said. "It's because Texas Tech, it really fits me. Especially because they throw the ball a lot, and I'm a receiver. They throw the ball a lot, and I want to go to a school that I can actually get the ball in my hands and be (deadly) with the ball."

The Rivals 250 receiver is happy with football right now. His recruitment couldn't be going better, and he's ready to get back to the grind of spring ball.

"Everything's going great. I have a lot more offers. Everything is going fine," he said. "We start spring football in two more weeks. I'm very excited to get these pads on again."

Lauderdale committed to Tech in February over offers from Alabama, Colorado, Baylor, Notre Dame, TCU, and Texas A&M.
