Furman suspended from football

Redshirt sophomore safety Josh Furman has been suspended from the Michigan football team, the U-M Athletic Department has confirmed.

Furman, a 6-2, 207-pounder, was expected to make a move in the defensive backfield this spring. But he has not been practicing, and it appears he won't participate in Saturday's spring game.

The two-year performer out of Annapolis, Md., played in 12 Michigan games last year, mostly on special teams. He recorded 10 tackles, as well as a blocked kick.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Furman faces three counts: domestic violence, assault, and breaking and entering/illegal entry based on an incident that occurred Feb. 11.

He will go to trial April 23.

"Josh was suspended indefinitely from team activities as soon as we became aware of the report," read a statement by Michigan coach Brady Hoke. "These are serious allegations. We will allow the judicial process to run its course before making a final determination on his status with the program."
