Junior WR has recovered from ankle injury

SAN FRANCISCO -- California wide receiver Keenan Allen is fully recovered from his offseason ankle surgery to repair a torn ligament in his ankle, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone more itching to get on the field than the junior All-America candidate.

"I'm definitely going to take it easy over these next couple days, rest my body, get treatment, get in there and let the trainers do their job to get us right and get me ready to go for camp," said Allen at the annual Bay Area College Football Media Day. "I'm definitely excited to get out there and compete, see who's good, see who's not, see who's ready to play. I'm looking forward to seeing what the freshmen do."

Allen tore the ligament during a game of pick-up basketball at the RSF, and since then, he's been all but banned from even looking at a basketball hoop.

"I'm not going anywhere over there, right now," Allen laughed. "I'm just taking it easy."

In recent weeks, Allen has been working out with the quarterbacks and whoever else he can get his hands on in order to jump-start his preparation for today's pre-camp conditioning test.

"I've been out there running routes and stuff for about three weeks," Allen said at the Pac-12 Media Day at Universal Studios last week. "I'm trying to stay out there, but I die out towards the end of practice because my ankle gets a little fatigued. It doesn't have all the flexibility quite yet. I'd say it's about 85 percent. Coming into fall camp, I should be ready to go."

Monday, though, was a different story.

"I'm definitely going at full speed, 100-percent. I got cleared by the doctor when I got back from LA, so I'm ready to go," Allen said. "I feel about 200-percent. That's how I feel right now. We've got the conditioning test today, so we'll see how it goes."
