Horns Sign Two on Signing Day

AUSTIN, Texas - A pair of student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Rick Barnes announced today.  Edgar Moreno (Choco, Colombia) and P.J. Tucker (Raleigh, N.C.) will join the Longhorns for the 2003-04 season.

"We've signed two quality people in Edgar and P.J.," Barnes said. "They are both versatile players who can come in and help fill the void next year when we lose Terrell Ross and Deginald Erskin.  We know these two guys are going to help solidify our program as one of the best in the country."

Moreno (6-3, 200), a combo guard from Lon Morris Junior College (Jacksonville, Texas) who plays under coach Dale Dotson, will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2003-04 campaign.  Moreno averaged 14 points and six assists per game as a freshman while leading Lon Morris to a 29-7 record and the quartefinal round of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Division I Tournament.

"Edgar will give us a big, strong combo guard," Barnes said.  "He'll do a lot of the things that we are asking of Terrell Ross this year. Edgar is a guy who can run the offense and play without the ball, and he really gets into people on the defensive end."

Tucker (6-5, 240) is a versatile forward from Enloe High School (Raleigh, N.C.) who plays under coach Tommy Moore.  Tucker averaged 27 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots per game during his junior season.

"P.J. brings excellent toughness and competitiveness," Barnes said. "He has the ability to rebound and score the ball.  P.J. possesses a lot of the same attributes that Deginald Erskin brings to the court."
