Allen ruled out

BERKELEY -- As I originally reported yesterday morning, the California football program confirmed to Jeff Faraudo of the Bay Area News Group today that Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen will not be able to play this Friday against Washington.

Down 22 points with 1:18 left on the clock against Utah, Allen -- on the hands team for onside kicks -- was trotted out onto the field to try and recover an onside kick against the Utes, only to have his knee rolled over on the sideline as he tried to recover the ball.

Allen did not appear to be in much pain at the time the injury purportedly occurred, and came into the postgame press conference with only a slight limp.

A source close to the situation told BearTerritory on Wednesday morning that Allen injured his ACL, though there were no specifics apart from that. It was heavily implied that Allen would miss the rest of the season.

UPDATE: Tedford has announced that Allen injured his PCL, and will be out two to three weeks. Tedford has not ruled Allen out for the remainder of the season, but said he will not jeopardize the long-term health of the program's all-time leading receiver.

"Keenan won't play against Washington," Tedford said. "We'll continue to evaluate him on a weekly basis."
