Commit Updates: Stribling, Butler crowned

Despite being bothered by a knee injury for much of the game, Matthews (N.C.) Butler two-star safety Channing Stribling continued his habit of making critical plays in big games with a touchdown grab and interception to help the Bulldogs down Jack Britt 56-28 in the North Carolina 4AA state title game.

Trotwood (Ohio) Madison four-star linebacker Mike McCray and St. Clairsville (Ohio) four-star linebacker Michael Ferns also appeared in state final action, but ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard.

Here is a more comprehensive look at how future Wolverines fared last week in prep action …

Patrick Kugler: Kugler was credited with four tackles, and his efforts at the line of scrimmage helped North Allegheny (14-0) gain 355 yards of total offense in a 56-6 playoff victory over McDowell … Kugler has made 31 tackles, including three for loss and one sack, and his blocking has set the tone for a Tigers' offense that is averaging 40.2 points and 409.5 yards per game this year … North Allegheny encounters Wilson in a Class AAAA semifinal clash Dec. 12.

Mike McCray: McCray stockpiled ten tackles, including two for loss, but Trotwood-Madision (12-3) was downed in the OHSAA Division 2 State championship game by Toledo Catholic Central 16-12 ... The four-star prospect finished his senior campaign with 115 tackles, three interceptions and a forced fumble.

Channing Stribling: Stribling persevered through a knee ailment to snag two passes for 23 yards (11.5 yards per reception) and one touchdown, and intercepted a pass to lead Butler (14-0) to a North Carolina 4AA state championship in a 56-28 demolition of Jack Britt.

Michael Ferns (2014): Ferns appeared only on offense because of a sprained knee, registering just one catch for seven yards, and St. Clairsville (14-1) was upended by Clinton-Massie 46-36 in the OHSAA Division 4 state title game … Ferns stopped 99 ball carriers, including eight for loss and two sacks, intercepted a pass and forced a fumble in 2012.
