Nik Stauskas earns second straight Big Ten weekly award

As Nik Stauskas continues to light up scoreboards, this distinction might be pretty commonplace: the shooting guard was named Big Ten Freshman of The Week.

It is Stauskas' second consecutive Big Ten Freshman Of The Week honor.

Stauskas led the Wolverines in scoring in both games last week, a 79-72 win over North Carolina State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and a 74-66 win at Bradley in the first true road game of the year.

Stauskas came off the bench against the Wolfpack to ignite the Michigan offense, scoring a team-high 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 33 minutes. It was the first 20-point game of Stauskas' career.

He topped that Saturday in his first-career start against the Braves. He dropped 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting - including 4-of-5 from three-point range - in a career-best 36 minutes of action.

Through the Wolverines first seven games (all wins), Stauskas is averaging 14.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He is shooting 57.7 percent from the field, including an incredible 62.1 percent on three-pointers.

Stauskas is third on the team in scoring, behind sophomore point guard Trey Burke (16.6 points per game) and junior guard Tim Hardaway, Jr. (16.6 points per game).

Although he has started just one game, Stauskas is averaging 27.7 minutes per game.
