Dad's firing has Brown looking around
One of the top remaining senior guards in the country, Brown is a 6-foot-3 southpaw combo guard at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. The son of former Lakers and Cavs head coach Mike Brown, Brown says what his father has gone through has made an impact.
"I had been thinking that I would stay on the West Coast, but then things happened with my dad and the Lakers," Brown told Rivals.com. "Now my family could still be in California, they could be in Pennsylvania, they could be in New Orleans or they could be anywhere next year. So, I'm open into looking into more places."
A high-scoring guard who can let it fly from deep, Brown is also an excellent body-control athlete with good burst, explosion around the rim and the strength to finish in traffic. The senior plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
"I feel like I have a lot to prove to myself and others," he said. "I don't want my reputation to be because of anything but what I do. I think that I am pretty good at the two, but I'm working to be more of a point (guard) because of my size."
So far, Brown has only taken a visit to St. Mary's and the other program that he's considering heavily is Butler. Both have offered and Brown said that after initially being a little less receptive to the Bulldogs because of distance, he's looked deeper into the program and likes what he sees. He'll visit there at some point in the late winter or early spring and is just trying to balance his options.
"I'm not totally sure what I'm looking for just yet," said Brown. "I've been in a really good situation at Mater Dei and need to see where I can go next year that I can find another good situation."
