Kearney to enroll at Arizona State
Brandan Kearney, a 6-foot-5 guard, said he will enroll at Arizona State this week.Michigan State transfer
Kearney will be eligible beginning in January of 2014 with two seasons to play for the Sun Devils after picking the school over Texas A&M following visits to both campuses with his parents last week.
Kearney announced his intent to transfer in late December after averaging 2.3 points in 16.9 minutes of action through Michigan State's first 13 games as a true sophomore.
"I'm really excited," Kearney said. "This is a fresh start for me and something I'm very much looking forward to.
"I loved my visit out there. It's a nice area, a nice campus, the coaches are very good coaches and it just feels like it's the perfect place for me to continue my career."
ASU elected to recruit Kearney, he said, in large part because of his versatility.
"Defensively I can guard three positions and on offense I can do a lot of different things," he said. "I can score and shoot it and handle it and am a good passer."
A 2011 Class A first-team all-state selection out of Detroit (Mich.) Southeastern High School, Kearney averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists as a senior.
Kearney, the No. 127 overall recruit in the 2011 class, led Southeastern to a 23-4 record and its first Detroit Public School League title in 55 years.
