Still winless in Big East play

SOCIAL: Follow on Twitter | Friend on Facebook

PISCATAWAY- Thursday marked the fourth attempt by USF (9-7; 0-4) at their first conference win of the season as they took on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights from the RAC. A late run by Rutgers resulted in a 70-67 loss for the Bulls, their fourth in a row.

After winning seven of eight games, the Bulls have dropped their past four - all in Big East play - including a 64-38 loss to now-no. 1 Louisville in their previous game. USF is the only school left without a win in Big East play.

USF (9-7, 0-4)had two possessions in the final minute where a three-pointer would have tied the score, but first Anthony Collins threw the ball away, and then following a Jerome Seagears miss on the other end, Martino Brock rimmed out on a deep three-point attempt as time expired.

The Bulls led at halftime, 30-27, but Rutgers jumped out to a nine-point lead after the break as USF went cold from the field.

Jawanza Poland led the Bulls with 17 points. Rutgers was led by Wally Judge with 14.

Box Score and stats

Cleaning the glass:

USF continues to struggle inside as Rutgers pulled down nine offensive rebounds to the Bulls four. That equates to more offensive chances and in a game like Thursday's - that's a formula for a loss.

Martino Brock led the team in rebounds, with five defensive and two offensive boards. The 6-foot-6 guard has been strong at getting the defensive rebound.

Freshman Javontae Hawkins added five rebounds and ten points - both season highs for him.

It doesn't get any easier

USF returns to the SunDome to take on Georgetown Saturday. The Hoyas are 12-3 (2-2) and defeated the Bulls 75-45 last time the two teams faced off.

Georgetown has a very big lineup and will pose a significant challenge for the Bulls - who still aren't able to seemingly crack open that 2-3 zone that they keep facing.
