Michigan's Signing Day Checklist

The 2013 class is almost put to bed, but you know that recruiting never sleeps. Here's a list of things that the Michigan coaching staff will take care of - and fans should look out for - on Signing Day 2013.

Count Those LOIs

Michigan is expecting all 27 prospects currently committed to send in their National Letters of Intent tomorrow. Although most of the players will fax in their letters first thing in the morning, prior to events at their school, here are some of the scheduled ceremony times:

  • Khalid Hill, 7 a.m. CST

  • Maurice Hurst, 7:30 a.m.

  • Delano Hill, 9:15 a.m.

  • Dan Samuelson, 10:30 a.m.

  • Wyatt Shallman, 10:30 a.m.

  • Csont'e York, 10:30 a.m.

  • Da'Mario Jones, 11 a.m.

  • Henry Poggi, 11 a.m.

  • Shane Morris, noon

As a reminder - six student athletes are already enrolled on campus, and we are not waiting for letters from that sextet.

Stay tuned to TheWolverine tomorrow during the day for updates on when the LOIs are actually sent - and on-site coverage from several of the ceremonies.

What's the Deal with Hank?

Baltimore Gilman defensive tackle Henry Poggi is the only Michigan commit that there are any question marks about. Though he's been committed to the Wolverines since May, Poggi has had flirtations with Alabama since early January, and took a visit to Tuscaloosa just over a week ago.

The big question has related to his silence both leading up to and since that visit. Was it merely a social visit to see good friend (and Gilman alum) Cyrus Jones, or was there more to it? If there was more to it - explaining the Poggis' reluctance to speak to the media - it could be the only harrowing moments for Michigan tomorrow.

Poggi plans to sign in a ceremony at Gilman at 11 a.m., so we should know at that time whether he sends his letter to Michigan, as expected, or makes a Signing Day flip to Alabama.

Rabbit out of a Hat

One of the defining characteristic of Signing Day over the year has been the emergence of a surprise or two right at the end. In 2011, Michigan waited until the afternoon of Signing Day to receive a letter of intent from tight end Chris Barnett. Last year, both Willie Henry and Dennis Norfleet committed to the Wolverines in the final hours before Signing Day.

Although nothing has emerged yet, it wouldn't be a surprise if we knew what it was, right? It's possible - even the most likely outcome - that nothing emerges, but if ever there was a day to be on pins and needles waiting for some unknown recruit to emerge, it could be Signing Day

Meet the Press

Head coach Brady Hoke and his assistants will meet with the media at 2 p.m., in their first public comments on the members of the 2013 recruiting class. While we've been analyzing and discussing these prospects for several months now, it will be interesting to hear what their future coaches have to say.

The assistant coaches give detailed breakdowns of what they expect out of each of their signees, and we get not only a better picture of their use, but the future of the Michigan program.

Focus on the Future

The 2013 class has been mostly locked down since the commitment of Richmond (Va.) Hermitage five-star running back Derrick Green over a week ago. As long as the signatures roll in as expected, there shouldn't be much drama tomorrow.

For the class of 2014, however, things start to get interesting. Michigan's coaching staff has told a number of recruits - including at least three at the quarterback position - that their evaluations are almost complete. It wouldn't surprise to see a wave of 2014 offers roll out Wednesday afternoon.

If the right prospects receive that offer, could the 2014 class grow? St. Clairsville (Ohio) linebacker Michael Ferns has to be getting lonely since the decommitment of offensive lineman Denzel Ward. Stay tuned to see if anything transpires.
