Despite loss, U-M moves up in AP poll

After a heartbreaking loss to Indiana, the Wolverines moved up a space in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 poll.

Michigan is ranked sixth in the poll, up from seventh as last week. In the USA Today coaches' poll, the team sits at eighth, same as last week.

The Wolverines are one of four Big Ten teams in the both polls' top 10.

Indiana, which dropped a home game against Ohio State earlier in the week, fell from No. 2 to No. 3 in the polls, being overtaken by Duke. Mid-major power Gonzaga retained the top spot in the poll. The Bulldogs begin their conference tournament tonight against No. 21 St. Mary's.

Michigan State, ranked 10th in last week's poll, jumped the Wolverines this week in the coaches', sitting at No. 7. In the AP poll, the Spartans are eighth.

The Spartans went 2-0 this week, with wins over Wisconsin and Northwestern.

Ohio State made a big jump in the poll, going from No. 13 to No. 9 in the coaches' poll and from No. 14 to No. 10 in the AP poll. The Buckeyes were helped by their win at Indiana.

After a loss at Michigan State and a close call at Penn State, Wisconsin fell just one spot in the poll, from No. 22 to No. 23 in the coaches' poll. In the AP poll, the Badgers stayed put at No. 22.

The Wolverines will be back in action Thursday as the fifth seed in the Big Ten Tournament. They will play Penn State for a chance to play Wisconsin on Friday in the quarterfinals.

Although the seats for the tournament are sold out, the Big Ten just released a group of standing room only seats. If you're interested in seeing the Wolverines in the tournament, click here for more details.
