Wake tops Kokuma's list

League City (Texas) Clear Creek rising senior running Kaliq Kokuma has Colorado, Northwestern, Texas State, UTSA and Wake Forest in his top five.

"Colorado, UTSA, Texas State, Maryland, Northwestern and North Texas [are showing interest]," Kokuma said. "Only Wake Forest [has offered me a scholarship]."

"Colorado, they e-mailed me saying out of the 14 running backs they were evaluating I was one of the ones that stood out to the staff. They're saying an offer is coming soon, but I haven't one yet. At first I was looking at Colorado, but I'm going to wait and see what happens."

Kokuma said the scholarship offer from Wake gives the Demon Deacons an edge with him.

"The last couple of days I've been watching a lot of film on them, like a lot of YouTube videos, and I realize they run first and then pass," Kokuma said. "I really like that. Josh Harris, I've watched his highlight film, and I like the way how he got the ball. I love the spread offense."

Kokuma wants to narrow his list of schools down to three then commit to one before the start of his senior season.

"Right now I just really want to focus on track and spring ball, because our coach is putting in new plays, so I really want to get familiar with the new plays," Kokuma said. "[I'm] not thinking too much about the future right now. I'm just thinking about high school still."

The 6-feet, 186-pounder is looking for a good education, the opportunity to play as quickly as possible, and wants to play in a spread offense.

Wake Forest signed four players from Texas as a part of its 2013 recruiting class, and some its most valuable players Harris, Tanner Price and Nikita Whitlock hail from the Lone Star State.

Kokuma said that tells him Wake is a school he could attend.

He plans to make the trip to Winston-Salem sometime this spring. Kokuma is unsure if he will go to Texas State's Junior Day.

Derrick Jackson is recruiting Kokuma for the Demon Deacons.

"It's cool," Kokuma said. "I talked to him the other night. He was cool to talk to."

He has also been in contact with Wake Forest associate head coach and running back coach Billy Mitchell.

Kokuma said he is agile, big, fast, quick, and is always going to get the extra yard.

The Texan rushed for 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns, and had 530 yards receiving and nine touchdown receptions as a junior.
