By the numbers: A streak like no other

North Dakota needs to go to the NCAA Tournament each of the next 11 years to match Michigan's now defunct 22-year postseason streak, and while the streak has ended, U-M fans can be thankful for an unprecedented stretch of success.

  • Over the 22-year run from 1991-2012, Michigan won 645 games at a 71.7 percent clip while dominating CCHA play with 430 victories or a .723 winning percentage. The football team over the same stretch won 71.1 percent of its overall games and posted a .706 winning percentage in Big Ten contests.

  • The Wolverines captured 11 regular-season conference crowns and were runner-up nine more times, while they also won nine CCHA Tournament titles and took second seven times. The football team over those 22 seasons earned eight Big Ten regular-season championships and finished second five times.

  • U-M also qualified for 11 Frozen Fours, winning national titles in 1996 and 1998, and placing runner-up in 2011.

Unfortunately, not only did the NCAA streak end this year but with its loss to Notre Dame Sunday, Michigan fell to 18-19-3 on the year, ending a 25-year stretch of winning seasons. That quarter-of-a-century streak ranks as the sixth-best in athletic department history.
