Analysis: Updated roster indicates conditioning gains

Michigan recently updated its roster with current heights and weights heading into fall camp, and some of the results are eye opening. Here's a look at several that stand out …

Taco Charlton: Charlton enrolled early and was 6-6, 249 when he arrived. He's now 6-6, 270 pounds of muscle and, according to teammates at Big Ten media day, a monster off the edge. Though he's still learning, Charlton figures to play as a true freshman and is quickly transitioning from athlete to football player.

Ben Gedeon, Mike McCray: The two Ohio freshmen linebackers measure in at 236 and 237, respectively, at 6-3 and 6-4. Only SAM linebackers Brennen Beyer (250) and Jake Ryan (240) are heavier.

Logan Tuley-Tillman: The freshman offensive tackle and early enrollee shed some bad weight, added some good weight and is now 6-7, 300 pounds. He's got quick feet, fifth-year senior Taylor Lewan reported at media day, and is quickly picking up the offense.

Chris Bryant: The redshirt sophomore offensive lineman was well above 340 at one point following his injury, but he's back to 6-4, 316. He's working himself back into game shape, but head coach Brady Hoke said he was still battling the effects of a broken leg suffered in camp last year.

Derrick Green: The freshman running back measures in at 5-11, a whopping 240 pounds, but he's certainly not fat. He might drop five pounds or so, but he's built and runs like a tank judging by the MGoBlue.com practice video we saw yesterday.

Terry Richardson: At 5-9, 167, Richardson will still need to get stronger before he can contribute significantly in the secondary.

Erik Magnuson: The redshirt freshman remains 6-6, 285. He's got the frame to add some more weight, but some kids have an easier time than others putting it on.

Jake Butt: The freshman tight end and early enrollee is up to 237 pounds, having added over 15 pounds since arriving at Michigan. He'll very likely play early, Hoke said in Chicago.

Chris Fox: The frosh offensive lineman checks in at 6-6, 338 - probably still working off some bad weight while recovering from his knee injury suffered last year.

Mario Ojemudia: The sophomore defensive end is up to 250 pounds but hasn't lost a step, teammates say. He, Charlton and Frank Clark (277) provide a wealth of talent at the position.
