Duke's Humphries Leads Way
Kris Humphries scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Hopkins (MN) H.S. to a 66-56 victory over Starkville (MS) H.S. on Monday morning at the Slam Dunk to the Beach.LEWES, Del. -- Duke signee
Humphries led a three pronged attack, as each of Hopkins' Division I signees enjoyed productive afternoons in the Power Series consolation bracket tilt. St. Louis bound Darren Clarke registered 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Boston College bound forward Dan Coleman added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Jarvis Hill, an impressive sophomore guard, led Starkville with 28 points. The Yellow Jackets' top prospect, 6-8 jumping jack Travis Outlaw, struggled all game long, finishing with 18 points on just seven of 21 shooting from the field.
Hopkins led by six at the half, and enjoyed a comfortable margin throughout much of the second half. The Royals were never able to break the game wide open, although they did open up a 62-50 fourth quarter lead on a pair of nifty assists from Clarke to both Coleman (alley-oop slam) and Humphries.
While neither team shot the three pointer very well, Hopkins shot 46 percent from the floor, as compared to just 33 percent for Starkville. The Royals also enjoyed a sizable 43-27 advantage on the glass, thanks primarily to its front line of Coleman and Humphries.
