By the Numbers: Poll drop is not unprecedented

In one of the rare anomalies of college football, Michigan has won the past two games and has dropped in the polls each week. However, falling after a win is actually not without precedence; U-M has slipped in the AP Top 25 37 times following a win since 1938.

  • Michigan has set one record this season in regards to the polls - the four-spot drop after the win over Akron is the greatest single fall for the program following a victory, eclipsing three-slot falls in 1980, 1965 and 1938.

  • The Maize and Blue have fallen in back-to-back weeks despite wins in both contests twice before, in 2004 after wins over San Diego State and Iowa, and then in 1938 when they bested Yale, Illinois and Penn in three straight weeks but fell each time.

  • Michigan has dropped in the polls twice in the same season (but not necessarily consecutively) despite winning the previous game six times, including this fall.

  • The Wolverines' seven-spot drop the past two weeks is the biggest decline over a two-week period ever, and even surpasses the six-spot fall during the three weeks of 1938.
