Hoops: Grantham and Chatman deciding soon, more

Class of 2014 prospects Donte Grantham of Cheatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy and Kameron Chatman of Portland (Ore.) will announce their decisions by the end of the week.

Grantham has been quiet since his Michigan trip, and he also visited Clemson this weekend for the second time in several weeks.

Cincinnati is no longer a factor, so it's likely between the Wolverines and Tigers for Rivals.com's No. 66 senior (6-7). Grantham announced on twitter that … he'd announce on twitter this Friday.

Chatman (6-8, No. 29) will decide between Arizona, Michigan, Oregon and USC, having visited each of those four recently. He'll announce Wednesday or Thursday after hosting U-M head coach John Beilein tonight. Many believe Arizona is the team to beat with the Wolverines a close second. Chatman told us Sunday night he enjoyed a great visit to the school over the weekend.

Also reported Sunday, senior shooting guard James Blackmon, Jr. of Marion, Ind. (6-3, No. 23) enjoyed a great trip to U-M and will visit Kentucky Oct. 18 before deciding. Michigan will host Moss Point, Miss. shooting guard Devin Booker (6-6, No. 30) and Sacramento, Calif. big man D.J. Wilson (6-9, No. 135) this weekend.

In class of 2015 news, Jalen Coleman (6-2 SG, No. 34) continues to impress. He enjoyed another outstanding weekend at the John Lucas Midwest Invitational.

"Both Toye and Coleman were already among the most high profile names in the Midwest heading into John Lucas camp," Rivals.com's Corey Albertson reported. "However, by the end of the day, both had also increased their stock in the eyes of most scouts.

"The 6-foot-3 Coleman has proven that he is one of the quicker and more dominating athletes in his class among combo guards, while also developing better touch on his outside shot. With the ability to play either guard spot offensively, and the mindset of a lockdown defender on the other end, the No. 36 prospect in the 2015 Rivals150, is looking more and more like a priority for the Big Ten schools that surround the La Lumiere campus."

The La Porte, Ind. standout thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Michigan this fall during Notre Dame weekend, but he's still got Indiana, Purdue, Butler, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Notre Dame and others on his list. He's visited South Bend and will visit Indiana for its Hoosier Hysteria event.

Finally, Next Up Sports caught Michigan class of 2016 target Seth Towns at a recent open gym and left impressed. Towns has visited unofficially and Beilein saw him at an open gym at his school this fall.

"Fresh off an unofficial visit to Ohio State this past weekend, the sophomore Towns was solid once again on Monday," they wrote. "Officially measured at 6-8 during his visit to Virginia Tech several weeks ago, Towns is becoming a more complete offensive player each time I have seen him. The small forward excels with his step-back jump shot, and has worked hard to improve his ball-handling and facilitation of the offense from the top of the key.

"When left open, Towns will knock down shots from the perimeter. Guarding 6'7 power forward Jaylen Tucker, Towns' low-post defense looked to be also improved, another testament to how hard the sophomore phenom works."

The Columbus Northland product wasn't overly impressive at the Michigan team camp, but he continues to improve and will bear watching in the months to come.
