Dickey excels, Terry struggles at Curry event
After an exciting first day in Charlotte at the Dell Curry Shootout in Charlotte, things slowed down on Friday, Jan. 3. There were some good games, but if you were there to watch UNC prospects' teams, then you probably came away disappointed.
In the early game, Bennettsville (S.C.) Marlboro County with UNC prospects Ra'Sean Dickey and Casaan Breeden were soundly defeated 82-57 by Charlotte Vance. Although Dickey finished the game with 16 points, seven rebounds and six blocks, he was double- and triple-teamed all night -- as he had been in Marlboro's earlier game. Breeden finished with 13 points, right at his average for the tournament thus far. Marlboro County was scheduled to face Marietta (Ga.) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, for seventh place.
In the featured match-up, Durham Mount Zion faced Winston-Salem Reynolds, and the game was everything it was billed to be. Mount Zion was victorious 53-48, but Mohamed Tangara finished with a miniscule seven points. Reyshawn Terry, who continued to struggle for Reynolds, was held in check for six points and fouled out in the fourth quarter. Possible UNC walk-on Justin Bohlander finished with 13 points for Reynolds. Reynolds was slated to play Laurinburg Institute Saturday at 3:00 for third place, and Mount Zion was on tap to play for the championship against tourney host Charlotte Latin at 9 p.m.
