Tangara's squad wins Curry Shootout
Mohamed Tangara and Durham Mount Zion won the Boys' National bracket title 66-60 over host Charlotte Latin. The last day of the Dell Curry Shootout, Jan. 4, was the day for championships to be decided and for awards to be handed out. For Tar Heel prospects, the day was pretty exciting as
Tangara scored only two points in the final game, but with a little more offensive polish to his game, he is going to be a good one. Tangara's teammate, Charlotte-bound Martin Iti, was the tournament MVP.
UNC signee Reyshawn Terry and Winston-Salem Reynolds, saved their best for last. Terry led Reynolds to a 61-53 win over powerful Laurinburg Institute. Terry finished with a game-high 27 points on his way first-team all-tournament honors. Possible Tar Heel walk-on Justin Bohlander finished with 10 points. Many schools around the country are starting to figure out that Bohlander has some nice skills and would be a nice addition to any team.
For Bennettsville (S.C.) Marlboro County, it was the same old song and dance when they lost their third straight game of the tournament 62-58. UNC prospects Ra'Sean Dickey and Casaan Breeden finished with 13 points apiece. Dickey was double- and tripled-teamed all tournament long, frustrating the big fellow and causing him to get in foul trouble. Dickey and Breeden are talented players that many coaches will flock down to South Carolina to watch.
