By The Numbers: Funchess in elite company among No. 2s

Sophomore tight end/receiver Devin Funchess may not be able to keep his pace up, but if he can, he's poised to become the top yards-producing No. 2 receiver in Michigan history.

Funchess has 19 receptions for 408 yards and four touchdowns and is on pace for a 41-catch, 884-yard and nine-TD campaign. Over his last two games, he's been even more productive, with 11 grabs for 263 yards and three scores, and if he could keep that pace up over the final seven games (six regular season and a bowl), the 6-4, 235-pounder would finish with 57 receptions, 1,328 yards and 14 scores.

While those numbers are unrealistic, the 41-reception/884-yard projection is not, and if he was to reach 884 yards it would surpass Adrian Arrington's 2007 performance (882 yards) as the top yardage ever recorded by a No. 2 receiver at Michigan (No. 2 is defined by the second-most receptions within a season).

Funchess is already one of only two No. 2 receivers all time to post back-to-back 100-yard games (Marcus Knight in 1999 is the other) while he's one of eight secondary targets to record a pair of 100-yard afternoons in an entire season.

With a third 100-yard game, he would join elite company with Arrington (2007), Marquise Walker (2000), Knight (1999), Amani Toomer (1995) and Paul Jokisch (1985) as a No. 2 receiver with three 100-yard efforts. No one has ever had four.

In total, Michigan's secondary targets have produced 37 100-yard games in the seasons they ranked No. 2 in receptions.

Here is a look at the past 25 years of No. 2 receivers and their production compared to Funchess.
