Michigan to start Burzynski, Magnuson at guard

Michigan coach Brady Hoke announced Friday via MGoBlue.com that redshirt freshman Erik Magnuson and redshirt junior Joey Burzynski will be U-M's starting guards when Indiana comes to town.

It will be the first career start for both players. Hoke did not say who will be the left guard and who will be the right. Redshirt freshman Kyle Kalis had started every game at right guard this season but with Michigan's continued struggles to establish a ground game, no job was safe up front.

Redshirt sophomore Graham Glasgow started the Wolverines' first four games at left guard before sliding over to center in week five against Minnesota. Classmate Chris Bryant started the next two games at left guard but was replaced by Burzynski midway through last weekend's loss to Penn State.

Magnuson was a four-star in the Class of 2012 but has been recruited and has a future at tackle. He stepped in at right tackle a week ago when senior Taylor Lewan went down with injury late in the first half and senior Michael Schofield slid over from right to left tackle.

Burzynski is a walk-on that has impressed the coaches with his technique, effort and intelligence.
