Offensive line shakeup again

Michigan will start yet another combination on the offensive line for today's game with Indiana. Walk-on Joey Burzynksi will get the nod at left guard while redshirt freshman Erik Magnuson replaces redshirt frosh Kyle Kalis at right guard.

For those keeping track, that's three starting left guards, two centers and two right guards. Jack Miller started the season at center, replaced by Graham Glasgow (who moved from left guard). Chris Bryant got a look at left guard before being replaced by Burzynski during the Penn State game.

Kalis has started every game this year, but the former five-star has been inconsistent, at best.

"It's almost baffling," former Michigan defensive lineman Will Heininger said. "You'll see certain plays and they'll be just perfect, see a play later where the defense isn't doing anything different in the same formation, same scheme, and a guy misses a block or takes a bad step. At some point young guys have got to grow up."

Most of the issues haven't been physical, rather targeting issues, head coach Brady Hoke said earlier this week. Those are things that can be attributable to youth to some extent, but it should be better by now.

"You'd like to see more of a sense of urgency," Heininger said. "I don't think it's scheme or that the talent is lacking. They can move people off ball. But often times young guys don't understand, guys are trying to take lunch out there, punch you in the face, so you've got to embrace it - say, 'I'm going to get his. Nobody is messing with me or with any guy on the line.

"They need to go drive someone into the ground and not feel sorry about it."
