Hoops: 2014 Abdur-Rahkman commits to Michigan

Michigan has landed another pledge for the 2014 class. Allentown, Pa., Central Catholic guard Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman. The 6-4, 180-pounder, a four-time all-state selection, visited Rice last weekend but committed to the Wolverines Saturday.

McCall.com reports that Beilein spoke personally to his father, Dawud Abdur-Rahkman, about how much he thinks the four-time all-stater would fit into his program and that he would likely get immediate playing time.

"Unlike some coaches who merely assemble All-American teams and then have guys leave after one season or two, Beilein has a reputation for taking players with slightly less credentials and turning them into All-Americans," they wrote. "Beilein loves coacing what he calls "gym rats" and Abdur-Rahkman fits that description."

His father said he'd know when it was the right time to pledge.

"When it feels right, he will know it and he will make his decision," he said. "It's not about taking all five visits and stringing people along. When a situation is right, he will make his decision then and not wait."

He found it Saturday in Ann Arbor.

Watch for more in the hours to come.
