Joe Kerridge confident running game will thrive

Michigan's running game ranked 103rd nationally a year ago, with 125.7 yards per game, and 115th in the country with 3.28 yards per attempt. Without a doubt, improving the ground attack is a big priority for the Wolverines.

"Through this offseason we put an emphasis on the run game and hopefully it all pays off," redshirt junior fullback Joe Kerridge said.

"I believe that we have put in a lot of extra work with the running game. I take that personally as a fullback - when you're running game is not up to par.

"We've really worked on what we need to do to improve that run game throughout the whole offensive line, the running backs, wide receivers, blocking downfield so I think we've really improved on that."

The proof is in the pudding, they say, and Michigan has to prove to a lot of critics that it can run the ball consistently. Considering the offseason emphasis, the Maize and Blue will not accept failure.

"We really focus on running, running, running the ball," said Kerridge. "We really want to get back to running it and then throwing when the opportunity presents itself. And get back to that traditional - pound the ball, running the ball football."

The 6-0, 244-pound Kerridge has appeared in 24 career games, with seven starts, and has seven career offensive touches. He is anxiously anticipating his role in the U-M offense.

"Very excited. Looking forward to this season," he said. "Fullback is looking real good right now. We really have had a chance to go through the playbook and get into what we want to do, and fullback for the most part is looking real good."
