Tar Heels Ready for First Trip to ECU
North Carolina steps out of the Atlantic Coast Conference to take on in-state rival East Carolina in Greenville on Saturday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised in parts of North and South Carolina (see TV listing below).
This is the first meeting between the two schools in Greenville. All nine previous meetings, including Carolina's 24-21 win in 2001, were played in Chapel Hill. Both teams enter Saturday's contest winless and with identical 0-5 records.
Carolina (0-5, 0-3 ACC) is coming off a 38- 13 loss at home to Virginia, while East Carolina (0-5, 0-2 C-USA) has not played since losing to Houston, 27-13, last Tuesday (Sept. 30) in Greenville.
The game features two of the top receivers in the country in UNC's Jarwarski Pollock and ECU's Terrance Cooper. Cooper leads the nation with 8.6 catches per game, while Pollock is fifth at 7.6.
Carolina has not started a season 0-6 since losing its first six games of the year in Mack Brown's first season in 1988.
UNC-ECU TELEVISION LISTINGS
That marked the 17th consecutive game Carolina has had a different starting lineup on defense, dating back to the start of the 2002 season. Four of Carolina's starters on defense last week had never started a game on that side of the ball entering the 2003 season (Green, Edwards, DE Madison Hedgecock and LB Melik Brown are the others).
