'Noles back in the lead for state's top DT

One of the most heated battles between the Seminoles and Hurricanes has been over Orlando Edgewater defensive tackle Aaron Jones. The four-star prospect favored FSU at one point last fall but after making his official visit to Miami last month the 'Canes had pulled even for his services.

Florida State got its shot this past weekend when Jones, along with a dozen other recruits, made their official visits.

"It was real nice. I liked it," said Jones, who rated the trip a 9 on a 1 to 10 scale. "I got to talk to coach Bobby Bowden and went to go to coach Bowden's house. I also liked hanging out with a lot of the players and getting to know them."

Jones, the Rivals.com No. 10 rated defensive tackle, was hosted by freshman defensive lineman Andre Fluellen.

So how do his leaders stack up after the visit?

"I'm leaning towards FSU now," Jones said. "I'm going on my other visits but it was out of Florida State and Miami so I don't know. I'll just wait it out and see what happens. I'll probably be committing soon."

Soon may not be soon enough for some fans. In fact, his commitment may not come until after his official visits to Georgia (1/16) and N.C. State (1.23). Expect Jones to make his announcement the week after his N.C. State visit on a television show.

If FSU holds on to its lead, and Jones ends up a Seminole, look for him to wear the jersey number (97) his father wore in the NFL next fall. Once defensive end Chauncey Davis graduates next year, he expects to grab his current jersey number of 94.

Jones finished his senior season with approximately 80 tackles and five sacks.
