Premium Preview: Nic Wise coming on lately

Nic Wise
5-10, 175 PG
Houston, Tex.
Hightower HS
Verbally committed to ARIZONA (April 28, 2003)

Notes on Nic:
The fabulous-playmaking point guard with terrific strength and solid body frame has struggled with his outside shot so far this year. Wise is normally a very reliable shooter and explosive scorer capable of dominating a game not only with his court vision and passing, but also with his ability to put serious points on the board.

The beginning of his sophomore year saw Wise battle with a case of mononucleosis and a brief suspension after transferring from Katy (Tex.) Cinco Ranch HS to Hightower, where he is now coached by his father, Greg Wise.

Wise hit his season's low point in a game against future Arizona teammate Jawann McClellan and Milby HS when he went scoreless in a close loss. Since then, however, Wise has come back looking like the same guy who dominated during AAU nationals this past summer, averaging a double-double with points and assists. Best game so far might have been an 18-point, 9-assist (2 turnover) performance against Booker T. Washington HS from Oklahoma City.

*Was also one of the unofficial MVP's of the U.S. Junior National team in Douai, France, according to head coach Linzy Davis.

*Hit game-winning 3-pointer in the Top 40 All-Star game at the Pangos All-American camp in Cypress, Calif. May 30 - June 2.

*Made the top five of the Nike All-American Freshman/Sophomore camp in St. Louis, Mo. in late June.

*Attended Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis July 5-10 as one of only eight 2006 prospects in an event full of close 200 players.

*GOAZCATS.com has a ton of film on Nic and will have it up as soon as possible so that Wildcat fans can see why we're (and the UA coaches) so excited about the future of "Point Guard U."

Season averages: 11.5 points, 10.7 assists, 3.0 steals per game.
Team record: 16-6 overall; 0-0 District 18-5A.
