Adibi Undergoes Successful Surgery

Tendon re-attached to humerus bone

August 31, 2004

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman linebacker Xavier Adibi underwent successful surgery Tuesday afternoon at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, according to head athletic trainer Mike Goforth. The one-hour surgery, performed by Dr. Marc Siegel, was to re-attach the tendon in his right biceps muscle to the humerus bone. Siegel also inspected Adibi's shoulder, but found it to be clean and no work was performed.

Adibi is scheduled to be released from the hospital this evening. He will be in a sling for six weeks and then will undergo rehabilitation on the arm for an additional six weeks. Goforth said Adibi will not play again this season, but should have no trouble in returning for spring practice in March of 2005.

Adibi redshirted last season, thus is not eligible for a medical redshirt this year. Adibi, who is from Hampton, Va., will be a redshirt sophomore next year.

Head coach Frank Beamer has announced that senior Mikal Baaqee will move to the backer spot, where Adibi played, and redshirt freshman Vince Hall will get his first collegiate start at the mike position.

Tech (0-1) returns to action on Sept. 11, hosting Western Michigan. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
