Dunbar gets a passing score

Football recruiting really heats up this month. Don't miss the boat - sign-up for a seven-day free trial.

Only one member of Florida State's 2004 recruiting class fell short of the required NCAA entrance requirements but that number is now zero. Defensive lineman Emmanuel Dunbar confirmed with Warchant.com on Tuesday night that he achieved the necessary score on the SAT to enroll at FSU in January.

"I passed the test," Dunbar said. "I feel more focused now and it's a good thing. I think it happened for the best because now I'm focused and ready to go to school and step in and play."

After learning that he narrowly missed out on the ACT last week, Dunbar found this week that he scored a 940 on the SAT, which is just enough to get him qualified under the NCAA's sliding scale. He recently shared the news with FSU defensive line coach Odell Haggins.

"He has been really, really supportive and I really appreciate how supportive he has been," Dunbar said. "He was happy and talked to my mom and stuff."

Because his latest SAT score took only a modest increase from his last attempt, there should be no issues with the NCAA Clearinghouse. The score and his final high school grades still need to be cleared through FSU's admissions office, but that should just be a formality.

"I should be up there by late December and start school in January," he said. "I don't care where (they play me) as long as I get on the field. It hurts to watch every Saturday and watch everybody play, all my teammates, while I'm siting at home."

Last year Rivals.com rated Dunbar as the No. 12 rated strong-side defensive end. In his senior season he racked up 112 tackles and 16 sacks. He also participated in the 2004 CaliFlorida Bowl.
