FSU lands second Rivals100 DE

video Everette Brown scouting video

After Florida State's 2004 recruiting class was signed, sealed and delivered there was one glaring weakness - no defensive ends. With that in mind the Seminole coaches set out to to load up on this position with the class of 2005. With signing day just a month away the 'Noles are off to a flying start.

Last month four-star defensive end Justin Mincey committed to the Garnet and Gold and on Wednesday another Rivals100 member joined him.

Wilson, North Carolina native Everette Brown committed to the Florida State coaches earlier this week but made it official during a cable television broadcast on Wednesday. His decision to become a Seminole was confirmed by Beddingfield high school coach Tony Nelson early Wednesday afternoon.

"He's making his commitment to Florida State," Nelson said. "They are getting a good one that's for sure."

The nation's No. 3 ranked weakside defensive end had a great time in Tallahassee when he visited officially last month but shortly thereafter expressed some reservations due to FSU's distance from his home in North Carolina. He obviously got over those reservations and picked the 'Noles over schools closer to home like North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Georgia, and N.C. State.

Brown was scheduled to visit both Virginia Tech and North Carolina later this month but said he is leaning to not taking any more visits.

The Beddingfield standout being recruited by FSU primarily as a defensive end but he excels on both sides of the football. At tight end this past season he had 40 catches for over 770 yards and 10 scores. On the defensive side of the ball he racked up 115 tackles with 30 going for loss, and that includes 18 sacks.

"He's the best kid I've ever been around on and off the field," Nelson said. "He's a shy, quiet kid off the field, is very mannerly and is a good student. On the field he has a motor that doesn't stop. He's just a great leader and is tenacious. He excelled on both sides of the ball."

Brown carries has a 3.3 GPA and is on track to qualify.

NOTE: Brown's coach went on the record with the commitment early Wednesday afternoon but out of respect for the recruit Warchant.com held off reporting the commitment until the television broadast where he announced his commitment.
