Florida State landed one of the fastest rising prospects in the country earlier this week. After amazing performances in the 5A state championship game and the CaliFlorida all-star game, Lakeland defensive tackle Kendrick Stewart is shooting up the recruiting rankings. Florida State finally offered a scholarship last month and he made a commitment after an in-home visit from defensive line coach Odell Haggins.

Almost immediately after making his commitment to the Seminoles, the Florida Gators jumped in the race. The all-state defensive tackle got an in-home visit from UF defensive coordinator Charlie Strong earlier this week and was offered a scholarship. Since Stewart attended Florida's Football Camp and previously listed the Gators as one of his early favorites do they have a shot at pulling him away from the Tribe?

"No, I'm not going to visit them," Stewart told Warchant.com, "I'm going to Florida State.

The 6-foot-1, 275-pound defensive tackle will visit FSU the weekend of January 21.

In last weekend's CaliFlorida game Stewart recorded five total tackles, with four of them going for loss including two sacks. He also pulled off a running back-flip after one of his sacks.

Stewart runs the 40-yard dash in 4.72 seconds, has a max bench press of 425 and squats over 500 pounds. As a junior, he recorded 56 tackles and seven sacks on his way to earning all-state honors for Class 5A. Stewart is already qualified and carries a 3.25 core GPA.
