Another Dawg in trouble
Darrius Swain was pulled over Saturday night for following too closely and arrested for driving on a suspended license.According to the Athens-Clarke County jail report, University of Georgia defensive tackle
He was cited for both, taken to jail, and released on $2,000.00 bond posted by Classic City Bonding.
This arrest of Swain will only complicate matters for Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner. Two defensive tackles, starter Kedric Golston (suspended for the season opener) and backup Marquis Elmore were hauled off to jail the night after the spring football game after an altercation in a downtown Athens bar, while earlier in spring camp it was announced that Richard Cook (transfer) and Marcus Jackson (injuries) were leaving the team. Compound that with the fact that Garner was not pleased with junior Dale Dixson's spring camp, and times are tough on the Bulldog defensive line.
Swain's career in Athens has been checkered. After signing with the Bulldogs in 2001, he failed to qualify and spent a season at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. He was able to get his grades in order an enroll at UGA in January 2002, and then played in 22 games, included four stars, in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Still, he never really established himself on the line, and was moved to offensive guard in the sprint of 2004.
It was a short lived venture, however, as he was moved back to defensive tackle last August.
Swain played in 12 games in 2004 and recorded 15 tackles. He finished this past spring camp as a member of the second team.
