Shareece Wright prepares for big senior season

Shareece Wright has big plans for his immediate future. The 5-foot-11 DB from Colton (Calif.) High School is busy preparing for his senior season, and garnering heavy attention from several high profile programs throughout the West.

Due to a busy summer schedule, Wright is limited in the number of camps he can attend. However, he is working hard on his own to ensure his continued improvement. "Right now I'm working with my trainer," he explained. "We do everything. We run and we lift six days a week. I have to work around my football schedule because right now we started our summer program. We have practice and weight lifting with the team. I have summer school in the morning, weight lifting at 3pm, practice at 5pm, and after practice I go to 24hour Fitness and lift."

Wright is hoping that all of the preparation pays off on the field. "The team is looking real good," he stated. "I'm looking forward to the season. It's my senior season. I did a lot over the off-season to better myself. I can't wait to see what the outcome is going to be like."

As one of the top prep players in California, Wright is being heavily pursued by many high profile programs. He currently lists Washington, Arizona, Cal, Oregon, and UCLA as his favorites. Several factors will weigh into Wright's decision. "First thing is my education," he said. "The coaches [are important]; the people that will be surrounding me, my teammates. That's why I want to weigh this process out and see as much as I can."

Although most schools are recruiting Wright as a defensive back, he has expressed interest in playing on the offensive side of the ball. "Some schools want me to play running back, but I don't want to do that at all. If I play offense, I want to play slot [receiver]," he stated.

Among other schools, Wright has received a scholarship offer to the University of Utah. However, with so many high profile programs seeking out his services, the Utes will be hard pressed to lure Wright to Salt Lake City. "[Utah] becomes an alternate," explains Wright. "If they want me on offense, and keep having interest in me, then that's a place I'm going to look towards." Wright explained that during his decision-making process, he will try to make official or unofficial visits to every school that offers him a scholarship.
