Mays closing in on a decision

Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea's Taylor Mays, Rivals.com's No. 2 athlete and No. 11 player overall, is a week or so away from ending his recruitment. He told the Seattle Times recently he's down to three schools - the same cast of characters it's been for some time - and that he's intent on making a decision before school starts.

Mays told Rivals.com a day earlier he "pretty much knows" where he's going between finalists USC, Washington and Michigan and has discussed his decision with his parents. He'll take the next several days to make sure he's 100 percent on his decision.

"I'm a big fan of college football. I like prestigious football programs," Mays told the Times. "I want to be able to play in big games and play on the big stage."

Though Mays enjoyed his Michigan visit, he could be tough to pry from the West Coast. His father, Stafford, played defensive end at Washington and in the NFL, and the two recently took a visit to Southern Cal that made a big impression. Mays gushed about the USC program upon his return.

Mays said after his July visit to Ann Arbor the trip was "better than I thought. Going over there I thought I was going to have fun and enjoy it and I really did enjoy myself. The campus - I felt comfortable in that atmosphere, so I feel it was a complete success," he said.

Mays - 6-3, 230 and a state champion in the Class 3A 100- and 200 meters -- is projected to play safety if he ends up at Michigan. For the entire article from the Times, click here: Taylor Mays.

In the same article, Bellevue (Wash.) standout offensive tackle Steve Schilling said his top four choices remain USC, Michigan, Washington and California. Schilling, Rivals.com's No. 3 tackle and No. 25 player in the class of '06 overall, said he has no current timetable for a decision.
