Mohetau picks Tech
Ofa Mohetau.Suffice to say, attrition has taken its toll on the Red Raider offensive line over the past several years. Between injuries, transfers and players reprioritizing their lives, Texas Tech has found itself without much depth in the trenches. With six prospects in-line for the class of 2006, the Scarlet and Black will still need some immediate help next season that true freshman will likely be unable to provide. It seems that the Red Raiders have found an answer to this question in the junior college ranks:
"I'm on my visit now," said Mohetau late-Saturday. "I have [committed to Texas Tech]."
The 6-3, 340 pound offensive guard, from Eueless (TX), has spent the past season at the College of the Sequoias. Mohetau signed with Brigham Young out of high school, and started as a true freshman in Provo. Sidelined with an injury his sophomore year, Mohetau transferred to Visalia's (CA) College of the Sequoias where he spent this fall blocking for former Tennessee starting quarterback Brent Schaeffer.
Despite heavy interest from USC and Florida, Mohetau chose to return to his roots.
"Yeah, it was a lot easier [staying closer to home]. The coaches and the players really made me feel welcome. I don't know [if I'm going to take other visits], right now I'm just committed to Texas Tech."
Mohetau, ranked the No. 8 JUCO prospect in the country, will be able to enroll at Texas Tech in June.
