Noles land OL Brandon Davis

Florida State would like to sign seven or eight offensive linemen with the upcoming recruiting class. As such, it has been a little disconcerting for Seminole fans to see only two OL recruits in the commitment column. Worse, those two players have been pledged to FSU since last summer and very little has happened since. With signing day just seven weeks away, the 'Noles need to load up on some quality linemen in a short period of time.

Bobby Bowden's team got a little closer to their goal on Wednesday when South Miami High School's Brandon Davis pulled the trigger for the Garnet and Gold.

"He committed this afternoon from my office," South Miami Head Coach Joe Mira said. "He went home and talked with his parents and he decided that's where he wanted to go so he committed today."

The 6-foot-2, 290-pound lineman selected FSU over Kentucky and Auburn, and there was little doubt in his mind where he was headed after he was officially offered a scholarship.

"Florida State has an excellent program and I like them very much," Davis told Warchant.com.

He had been heavily recruited by the Seminole coaching staff for several months but was finally offered a scholarship during an in-home visit by assistant coach Kevin Steele Tuesday night. The very next day he made a call to Tallahassee and officially pulled the trigger. With the loss of former commitment Chad Roark to Oklahoma, Davis is being recruited by FSU to play center. During his time at South Miami, he played all three positions on the line - guard, tackle and center.

Regardless of where plays at the next level, his coach believes he will be very successful at Florida State.

"I think he's going to have a great future," Mira said. "He's a big strong kid with good feet and I think he'll do a good job."

Backing up that statement is that Davis didn't give up a single sack during his junior or senior seasons.

The South Miami OL carries a 2.7 GPA in the classroom and will take the ACT for the first time next month. He is scheduled to officially visit FSU the weekend of January 20th and does not plan on visiting any other schools.

Davis becomes commitment No. 14 for the class of 2006. FSU is expected to sign at or near a full class of 25.
