To the Swamp

The No. 1 player in the country and his highly-touted teammate are both heading to The Swamp.

Wide receiver Percy Harvin of Virginia Beach Landstown and teammate Damon McDaniel, also a wide receiver, joined what could go down as the best recruiting class in Florida history when they made verbal commitments to the school on Monday afternoon.

"For the next five years of my life, I am going to the University of Florida," Harvin said.

Harvin chose Florida ahead of Southern Cal.

Harvin scored 33 touchdowns in his senior season, with 14 of those scores covering more than 50 yards. The 6-foot-1, 208-pounder also caught 75 passes for 1,313 yards and 14 touchdowns, rushed for 504 yards and 13 touchdowns.

McDaniel selected Florida just after Harvin's announcement.

McDaniel, the nation's No. 60 overall prospect, finished his senior year with 80 receptions for more than 1,700 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Both join a class that already is ranked No. 1 in the country by Rivals.com and will join previously committed Rivals100 wide receiver Damian Williams, Rivals250 wide receiver Justin Williams and Rivals100 athletes Riley Cooper and Jarred Fayson, both of whom are expected to play the wide receiver position in Gainesville.

Both made their official visits to Florida the weekend of Sept. 17 and watched the Gators defeat Tennessee, 16-7, in an electric atmosphere at The Swamp.

Wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, who recruited Damien Williams out of Arkansas to Gainesville, picks up his second and third commitments in this class with Harvin and McDaniel.
