Pac-Tending 01-04-06

"If there is a written rule that says you have to win both games to win it, then he shouldn't get it."

- Washington head men's hoop coach Lorenzo Romar, issuing a slightly sarcastic comment on the fact that Brandon Roy did not receive the conference's player of the week award - similar to WSU's earlier situation with Jerome Harrison in football - because the Huskies did not win both games last weekend. There currently is no written conference rule regarding winning being a necessity for the weekly award.

There was the appearance of joy at the Creek last week as the final fall standings were released in the NACDA Director's Cup and seven Pac-10 teams were represented - including five in the Top 20 - led by 11-time defending champion Stanford in second place overall.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the committee on academic performance meets this week to discuss the penalty appeal and rewards/incentive plans for the APR [Academic Progress Rate].
