Spiller To Clemson
Talk about this story on The Esso Club Message Board][
In what is the most memorable moment in Clemson National Signing Day history, the Tiger coaching staff has landed a huge verbal commitment in the form of Lake Butler, Fla. - Union County star C.J. Spiller.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound athlete, rated by Rivals.com as the No. 1 all-purpose back in the nation, announced for the Tigers this morning at his press conference, an announcement carried live by WUCR, 107.9FM.
Spiller had been considering Florida, Florida State, Miami and Southern California, but trimmed his list last week to Florida, Clemson and Florida State.
The five-star back, who mulled over 50 scholarship offers in the recruiting process, is the highest rated back to ink with Clemson in over two decades. Spiller's commitment also gives Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden two five-star acquisitions in the 2006 recruiting class, joining Bamberg-Ehrhardt defensive end Ricky Sapp.
Recruited by wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney, the blue-chip speed merchant, who runs the forty-yard dash in 4.4 seconds, is tabbed by Rivals.com as the No. 1 recruit overall regardless of position in the state of Florida, which marks the first time in history Clemson has landed the Sunshine State's top recruit.
This winter Swinney also landed the state's No. 10 prospect overall, four-star safety DeAndre McDaniel of Tallahassee, Fla. - Godby.
Last fall Spiller rushed for over 1,800 yards and 30 touchdowns. As a junior he totaled over 1,600 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Tigerillustrated.com will have more on Spiller's announcement later today.
