Zoubek leads team to state title game

There are few big men in the nation playing better basketball right now than Brian Zoubek. The 7-foot-2 center from Haddonfield High School has helped lead his team deep into the New Jersey playoffs and his latest performance outshined a McDonald's All-American.

Zoubek scored 27 points, collected 18 rebounds and six blocks in a 71-37 stomping of Rahway (N.J.) High School, featuring Louisville-bound Earl Clark. Clark finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks.

Zoubek and his Haddonfield mates advanced to Sunday's NJSIAA Group 2 state boys' basketball final. Haddonfield (29-1) is searching for it's third straight state championship.

The McDonald's snub helped put a little more motivation in Zoubek's tank.

"That gave me a little more incentive," he told the Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi. "I had a little chip on my shoulder and I went out there and proved something."

Zoubek, who didn't play in the fourth quarter in the playoff win against Clark, has helped Haddonfield claim wins over St. Anthony's, Solon High School (a team featuring 6-9 5-star junior Dallas Lauderdale) and others. He is averaging upwards of 24 points and 13 rebounds this season.
