Pac-Tending 05-11-06

"Golf is a difficult, time-consuming game."

- New Oregon men's golf head coach Casey Martin.

It is hoop season already at the Creek as the Pac-10 announced they have renewed their contractual television agreement with Fox Sports through the 2011-12 season.

Meanwhile at NCAA HQ, the men's and women's basketball rules committees approved a rule change to eliminate the airborne timeout called when momentum is carrying the player out of bounds or into the backcourt while compression undergarments [such as the popular Under Armor brand] will not be allowed to extend below game pants or below the elbow.

In women's hoop, the Cougars signed Nakejia Kelly and Alexa Price to letters of intent. Kelly, who averaged 16 points and six assists per game in her senior season at Notre Dame Academy in New York and was a three-time honorable mention in Street & Smith magazine, chose the Cougars over UCLA, Georgia tech and St. John's. Price averaged 29 points per game in her senior year at Los Angeles High School and selected Wazzu over UCLA and Fresno State.

Junior heptathlete Julie Pickler finished second in the Pac-10 Combined Events Championship while senior Katie Miller finished eighth.

In volleyball, senior middle blocker Jen Barcus, who has one year of eligibility remaining, will transfer to Iowa.
