Brewer signs pro baseball contract

It didn't take long for Brent Brewer to make his decision. The wide receiver/infielder signed with the Seminoles to play football back in February but he signed a more binding contract on Wednesday when he agreed to terms with the Milwaukee Brewers.

On Tuesday, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound two-sport star was drafted by the Brewers with the 60th overall pick in the second round of the Major League Baseball Draft. It only took 24 hours for him to decide he wanted a pro career in baseball over playing football in college.

"It was just money and I really wanted to play baseball," Brewer told Warchant.com. "It's a once in a lifetime chance to play baseball."

Brewer didn't want to discuss the details of his contract but noted that his new employer agreed to fund his college education.

Even though the decision was a quick one, Brewer admitted he will miss the chance to play football at Florida State and be with good friend D'Vontrey Richardson, who helped recruit him to FSU.

"I'm going to miss it a lot," said Brewer, "I'm going to try to get over there and get to a game (this year)."

Brewer, who expects to start his pro career at shortstop, will leave and officially report to the Brewers on Monday.

As a senior at Sandy Creek in Tyrone, Georgia, Brewer batted .497 with 7 home runs, 30 RBI and 12 stolen bases.
