Peach Jam top performers - Part I

The high-scoring Team Florida duo of Nick Calathes and Chandler Parsons put on a show at the NIKE Peach Jam and each earned a spot among the top ten performers at the event.

National Basketball Analyst Jerry Meyer ranks and breaks down the first half of top ten at the Peach Jam.

10. Chandler Parsons, SF, Winter Park (Fla.) Lake Howell
AAU Team: Team Florida
Peach Jam Stats (event rank): 25.4 points per game (1)

Whether a three or a four, the point with Parsons is that he is a scorer. He excels at finishing on the break either at the basket or on pull up jumpers, both from the mid-range and long range, and he is also demonstrating the ability to create his own shot off the dribble.

Astutely playing off the abilities of Nick Calathes, Parsons, with his smooth stroke and knack for scoring, led the event in scoring.

9. Tim Flowers, PF, Chicago Simeon
AAU Team: Mean Streets Express
Peach Jam Stats (event rank): 12.4 rebounds per game (1)

The Mean Streets Express didn't win the Peach Jam with just guard play. They also had Flowers, an undersized post player, controlling the inside with his strength and steady hands. Flowers consistently dominated bigger and more highly ranked opponents on the boards and also contributed some scoring along the way.

His 21 rebound performance in the championship game enabled Derrick Rose and Eric Gordon to get out on the break, and it secured more than a 3 rebound margin per game over any other rebounder.

8. Gani Lawal, PF, Norcross (Ga.)
AAU Team: Georgia Stars
Peach Jam Stats (event rank): 20.8 points per game (8), 7.6 rebounds per game (5)

Sprinting the court and battling inside, Lawal was both a major scoring and rebounding threat at the Peach Jam. In the process of developing a variety of post moves, he also scored points off the 4 offensive rebounds he averaged a game.

Lawal's 30 point and 9 rebound performance against Blake Griffin and Athletes First is quite noteworthy.

7. Patrick Patterson, PF, Huntington (W.Va.)
AAU Team: Boo Williams
Peach Jam Stats (event rank): 11.0 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game (3), 2.4 assists per game, 3.2 blocks per game (1)

Patterson continued his strong summer play at the Peach Jam.

Both a physical and mobile forward, Patterson put up solid numbers across the board. Scoring both inside and outside, Patterson was also extremely quick to the ball as a rebounder and shot blocker. He was also very effective in the high post as a passer.

His top performance came against Howard Pulley when he scored 16 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 2 assists and blocked 3 shots.

6. Nick Calathes, PG, Winter Park (Fla.) Lake Howell
AAU Team: Team Florida
Peach Jam Stats (event rank): 22.8 points per game (4), 5.8 assists (6)

Calathes was on top of his game although Team Florida was without their top two interior players. With his advanced understanding of the game, Calathes found scoring opportunities all over the court. And right when the defense extended too much to stop him, he consistently found the open man with his pin point passing.

Most impressive was his 29 point first half outburst against The Family, who used at least five different defenders to try to stop him.
