Michael Bush out for the season
Michael Bush was carted off the field with an injury.Ahead 31-14 in the third quarter, the No. 13-ranked University of Louisville football team suffered what could be the Cardinals biggest loss on the season. Louisville running back and Heisman candidate
On third and six from the 14-yard line, Bush carried around the left hand side of the line when he was hit and brought down by a host of tacklers. Bush continued to lay on the field after Kentucky tacklers had moved away, and U of L teammates motioned for trainers to attend to the injured star who was laying on the ground near the Kentucky sideline.
Trainers began inflating an air cast before Bush was loaded onto the motorized cart. Shortly after, U of L officials announced Bush had broken his right leg and would be out for the remainder of the season.
While a broken leg is terrible news for any collegiate player, for Bush it was especially painful. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound senior returned for his last season of eligibility at Louisville after his family received reports he'd likely be taken in the second round of the NFL Draft.
Bush rushed for 1,143 yards and 23 touchdowns last season, and was a pre-season All-America pick by several publications. Bush's 23 touchdowns came despite missing two games in 2005 with a foot injury. Bush rushed for 2,380 yards during his first three seasons at U of L, and was quickly climbing the school's all-time leading rushing list.
Bush, who was touted during the preseason along with teammate quarterback Brian Brohm as the "Derby City Duo", is eligible for a medical redshirt, but it is too early to tell whether he'd take that option.
