Football Notebook: B.J. Dennard Returns

Between Mike Stoops' comments during his weekly press conference in the morning and what materialized around the program throughout the day, there was plenty of news surrounding Arizona Football on Monday. Here's the latest information on the team.

Wide receiver returns

Last Monday, UA junior wide receiver B.J. Dennard quit the UA football team. One week later, he decided to come back.

While there was no official statement from Dennard or Arizona's coaches, the former Brophy Prep star was in uniform on Monday and practiced with his UA teammates.

On the season, Dennard has one catch for two yards. He's expected to address the media on Tuesday.

Henry is back

Junior running back Chris Henry suffered a one-game suspension for the Stephen F. Austin game and in the morning, when Stoops was asked whether or not Henry would be back on Monday, the head coach said that he "hoped so".

By the start of practice in the afternoon, Henry was in uniform and practicing with the team. We'll have more on Henry's return as it's available.

Running back starter up in the air

Chris Jennings, who rushed for 201 yards with two touchdowns against Stephen F. Austin, became the logical choice to start against USC based on his Saturday performance. However, Stoops stopped short of completely naming Jennings the starter in his press conference.

"Chris Jennings really earned a spot, in my eyes, through his play on Saturday," said Stoops. "We're always going to reward strong play so I think there's a good chance Chris would start but we'll see how they practice this week."

Jennings wasn't able to do much to prove himself in Monday practice, due to the fact he was wearing a boot on his left leg. While there's no official word on the injury, it isn't anticipated to be serious and Jennings is expected to play against USC.

Stoops happy with Borg

The most versatile player on Arizona's offensive line is redshirt freshman Daniel Borg. The local product from Ironwood Ridge has impressed Stoops thus far this season.

"We play six linemen and Daniel is a starter in our eyes," Stoops told the media. "We shuffle all six of them around. Daniel is a very smart and intelligent player and is the one guy who can play all the positions. He has the athleticism to go and play tackle so he gives us a lot of flexibility in our scheme."

Barnett close to returning

A hyper extended elbow sidelined defensive tackle Yaniv Barnett for Saturday's game against Stephen F. Austin, but it looks as if the junior is close to making a return.

"We're anticipating having Yaniv back to full practice by Wednesday," said Stoops.

Starting in Barnett's place was redshirt freshman Donald Horton. Stoops was happy with how the young lineman performed in his first start.

"He really did some nice things," said Stoops.

Bell out indefinitely

Senior offensive tackle Tanner Bell sat out Saturday's game due to the aftereffects of a concussion, Stoops said Monday. There is no timetable on his return.

"I'm not going to rule him out for the season," Stoops said. "Hopefully at some point he'll be able to come back."
