Clemons makes it official

New Kensington (Pa.) Valley four-star wide receiver Toney Clemons did not wait long after taking his official visit to Michigan on Oct. 7 to schedule a press conference and now we know why. The 6-2, 190-pound Clemons held that press conference at Valley high school today an announced his college selection.

Clemons thanked all those who helped him along the way, then opened his coat to reveal a Michigan No. 15 Steve Breaston Alamo Bowl jersey and put on a Michigan hat. Breaston, Michigan's senior wide receiver, is Clemons' cousin.

Ranked as the No. 20 wide receiver prospect in the country by Rivals.com and the No. 4 prospect in the state of Pennsylvania, it was pretty clear where Clemons was going after he announced he was ready to decide having taken just one official visit. That official visit, taken the weekend Michigan hosted Michigan State, had Clemons listing the Wolverines as his leader upon his return home.

"It was a crazy visit and I got all my questions answered and they did it without hiding anything," said Clemons after the visit. "I saw everything I wanted to and the players told you the good and the bad. They kept it honest and very respectable. On top of that, they have amazing facilities and some of the best academics in the country. I'd have to say they are the frontrunner."

In Clemons, Michigan is getting a tall, fast wide receiver with great hands and the ability to catch the football in traffic. He becomes part of a Michigan class of 2007 that already boasts 14 other verbal commitments and a future receiving corps that looks to be shaping up nicely for five-star quarterback commitment Ryan Mallett.
