ACC Week 9 Recap
Boston College
Matt Ryan threw two TD passes in the final 2:11 as the Eagles rallied to beat host Virginia Tech 14-10. BC trailed throughout and didn't look that good on offense until its final two drives. BC is 8-0 for the first time since 1942. BC scored with 2:11 left, then recovered the ensuing onside kick. Ryan's winning TD pass came with 11 seconds left.
Next: vs. Florida State.
The Tigers had two tailbacks go over 100 yards in a dominating 30-17 victory over host Maryland. The Tigers led 20-3 at halftime and 30-3 early in the fourth quarter. James Davis, who had guaranteed a victory, ran for 129 yards and a touchdown. C.J. Spiller added 106 yards for the Tigers. Cullen Harper also tossed two TD passes.
Next: at Duke.
The Blue Devils lost their 22nd league game in a row, falling 25-6 at Florida State. Duke managed just 222 total yards and nine first downs. Duke's TD came on a 3-yard pass from Thaddeus Lewis to Brandon King.
Next: vs. Clemson.
Florida State
The Seminoles gained a season-high 534 yards and had 30 first downs in beating visiting Duke 25-6. Gary Cismesia kicked four field goals and WR Preston Parker had a TD catch and a TD run as FSU rolled on homecoming. FSU held Duke to 222 total yards, including just 49 in the first half.
Next: at Boston College.
Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets were off last week.
Next: Thursday, vs. Virginia Tech.
The Terps scored on their first drive, but that basically was it for the highlights in a 30-17 loss to visiting Clemson. Maryland trailed 20-3 at halftime and 30-3 early in the third quarter before tacking on two late TDs. The Terps allowed 249 rushing yards and managed just 97 themselves.
Next: at North Carolina.
The Hurricanes were off last week.
Next: vs. NC State.
North Carolina
The Tar Heels outgained host Wake Forest 313-269, but still lost 37-10. UNC has lost two in a row and six of its past seven. T.J. Yates threw for 236 yards and a TD, but also tossed two interceptions. Wake scored on its first three possessions.
Next: vs. Maryland.
NC State
Daniel Evans threw for 347 yards and three TDs as the host Wolfpack shocked Virginia 29-24. Donald Bowens caught 11 of Evans' passes, for 202 yards and two TDs. Bowens came into the game with 15 catches for 252 yards for the season. NCSU snapped a nine-game league losing streak with the victory.
Next: at Miami.
The Cavaliers' seven-game winning streak came to an end in a 29-24 loss at North Carolina State. Jameel Sewell threw for 260 yards and two scores before leaving with an injury with about 7 minutes left. TB Mikell Simpson ran for two TDs in his second consecutive strong performance. The Cavs never have won eight in a row.
Next: vs. Wake Forest.
Virginia Tech
The Hokies dominated play for almost 58 minutes, but fell apart late, losing 14-10 to Boston College. After BC scored with 2:11 left to make it 10-7, it recovered the ensuing onside kick and marched to the winning TD. Branden Ore rushed for a season-high 97 yards on 20 carries, and Sean Glennon threw for 149 yards and a TD.
Next: Thursday, at Georgia Tech.
Wake Forest
The Demon Deacons scored two more nonoffensive TDs giving them nine this season in a 37-10 rout of visiting North Carolina. Kevin Marion returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown and LB Aaron Curry returned one of his two interceptions 77 yards for another score. TB Josh Adams also ran for two scores as Wake won its sixth in a row.
Next: at Virginia.
