Lymon's Purdue career over
Selwyn Lymon's tumultuous career at Purdue is over following his most recent arrest.
The former elite recruit was arrested during the weekend on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting arrest.
The incident came months after a springtime incident that left him stabbed in the chest and hospitalized and ultimately facing six misdemeanor charges for his conduct during and after the late-night incident.
"Selwyn is the victim of making some very poor choices, and, in addition to dealing with the legal ramifications of those poor choices, he no longer will be a part of the football program at Purdue," Coach Joe Tiller said in a released statement Tuesday. "As a human being, we will support him and do whatever we can to help him earn his degree. I plan to meet with him as soon as we can get together."
This season, Lymon was the Boilermakers' fourth-leading receiver with 40 catches for 450 yards (11.2 average) and two touchdowns. In two years, he totaled 73 receptions for 1,030 yards (14.1 average) and five touchdowns.
Lymon came to Purdue as one of the nation's top wide receiver recruits. After sitting out 2005 as an academic non-qualifier, he started each of the past two seasons, though his '06 campaign was marred by an eye injury suffered when he was shot in the face with a pellet in a late-night incident.
